TITLE: BLESSED POVERTY AND GRIEF
I What Happiness Is
a) Not by outward habits/patterns
b) By inward renewal (Matthew 9:36)
c) Blessed means happy
II Happy Are The Poor In Spirit
a) One who is willing to be governed
b) Requires deep self-examination
c) Not self-disgust but dependence on God
III Happy Are Those Who Mourn
a) Readiness to mourn over own sin (Romans 7:24)
b) He also weeps for the wrongs of others (Luke 19:41,John 11:35)
c) Jesus comforts us
Conclusion: Happiness is God's doing. When we go to God just as we are, ready to depend upon him in our poverty of spirit and grief, He will set us right. Do it today !
TITLE: BLESSED SUBMISSION AND HUNGER
Introduction:
a) Must know self first to be meek (Matthew 5:3)
b) Must mourn also (Matthew 5 :4)
c) Now ready to submit to God
I Happy Are The Meek
a) Definition: humble, God controlled
b)Example of Christ (Matthew 11:29, Philippians 2: 7)
c) Meekness must be exemplified in:
I ) Gentleness (Galatians 5 :22-23)
2 ) Forgiveness (Psalms 103: 8)
3) Contentment (Philippians 4: 11, 1 8)
II Happy Are Those Who Hunger And Thirst
a) Righteousness is essential to happiness
b) Hunger and thirst suggest a desperate realisation of our urgent need for help (Psalms 42:1 )
c) It is to have the desire to be free from sin and to be holy
Conclusion: The promise of these beatitudes is that we be blessed (happy) and filled (satisfied). Go to Jesus. He will not cast you out (John 6:37).
TITLE: BLESSED CONCERN AND PURITY
Introduction: God Was Merciful To Us Before We Become Merciful
a) First we are poor in spirit-undeserving
b) As we mourn over this, God gives us a contrite heart
c) We then go to him in humility
d) We are taught to thirst and hunger after righteousness
Now as we display mercy we are doing this because of what God has done to us
I Happy Are The Merciful
a) It is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20: 25)
b) He that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he (Proverbs 14:21)
c) Only the forgiving will be forgiven
II Happy Are The Pure In Heart
a) As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he (Proverbs 23 :7)
b) We must possess singleness of heart in our service to God
c) Word of God is able to help us in our heart (Hebrews 4: 12)
III When we appreciate the attributes of God as they stand,
understand His character as the word reveals,
then we will begin to "see God" for all He is now and then soon, face to face.
a) He mercifully forgives all for Christ's sake
b) His heart is pure with a purpose of glorifying God
c) He goes out of his way to produce peace
d) He does not cry out against persecutions
